Student Reflections

To engage parishioners in Babies in Bethlehem, older students and youth ministry members are encouraged to speak about the program at Masses throughout the four Sundays of Advent.

These student-led reflections reinforce the importance of preparing for Christ’s birth through prayer and alms giving together as a parish community.

Sample Talking Points

To help students get started, we’ve created a sample speech that can be modified or used as is.  Here is a brief excerpt from the speech:

Hello, my name is ______, and I am here to tell you about how my class has been preparing this Advent for the birth of Jesus. We are participating in a project called Babies in Bethlehem, to learn about Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem and its special work as a maternity and neonatal hospital. Located only 500 yards from the manger where Jesus was born in Bethlehem, this Catholic hospital delivers thousands of babies every year. We’ve learned about how families in Bethlehem today – like Mary, Joseph, and Jesus – often are very poor and must travel great distances for access to healthcare. Holy Family Hospital works to make sure all families are welcomed and cared for, never turning anyone away.
