Located just 1,500 steps from the birthplace of Christ, Holy Family Hospital is a Catholic teaching maternity and neonatal critical care center serving poor, refugee, and at-risk families in the Holy Land. COVID arrived in Bethlehem in March closing down businesses resulting in a salary stoppage for 90% of the people. Things have not improved. Today, families can barely afford food, let alone medical care.
With many roads closed, women like Mariam, who relied on the Mobile Outreach Clinic van, do not have access to healthcare. However, Holy Family Hospital was able to use telehealth to continue prenatal care consultations for women who lived far from the Hospital. These sessions ensured that women who are separated by roadblocks still have access to healthcare education. Mariam learned how important nutrition is for her growing baby during her telehealth sessions. When she delivered her baby at Holy Family Hospital, her newborn daughter was happy and healthy.
