Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem Welcomes Pope Francis to the Holy Land
Washington, DC – May 22, 2014 – This weekend, Pope Francis will make a historic visit to the Holy Land. In keeping with the official theme — “ut unum sint,” (“that they may be one”) Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem will celebrate the Holy Father’s arrival by creating for him a spiritual bouquet of prayers from around the world in recognition of its role as an instrument of peace in the Holy Land. Your prayers are needed!
Join us in offering your prayers and special intentions for Pope Francis’ successful visit to the Holy Land and for peace in the birthplace of Jesus. Donations from the spiritual bouquet will provide care for the mothers and babies at Holy Family Hospital, the only state-of–the-art maternity hospital in the Bethlehem region. The hospital delivers 3,200 babies annually, and its 18-bed neonatal intensive care unit provides life-saving care for 400 children each year. The hospital will never turn away a patient and does not discriminate on religion, nationality, or ability to pay.
In 24 years as a Catholic teaching hospital, Holy Family Hospital has become the region’s premier maternity hospital and critical care center. It also serves four United Nations refugee camps and Bedouin encampments in the surrounding desert. Hospital programs address urgent public health issues endemic to residents, such as Preventative Maternal Health and the Over-45 Well Women Health Clinic. In addition, the Mobile Outreach Clinic treats poor families in the surrounding desert.
Yet, perhaps most important is the Hospital’s role in an area that knows great strife. Each infant born is an instrument of peace, as Muslims and Christians are treated side by side. As a primary employer in the region, the Hospital recruits and trains local medical professionals and provides opportunities for women in an area where few exist. Mirroring the motto “ut unum sint”, the Hospital serves all faith communities and seeks to promote peace in its interactions with those of other faiths.
So please join in sending your prayer as part of the Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem Foundation’s spiritual bouquet to Pope Francis and help promote peace among all people in the West Bank.
